Sound Insulation Testing (PCT)
Paragon Acoustic Consultants (PAC) is a member of the Association of Noise Consultants (ANC) Registration Scheme (Registration No. 150) and is able to carry out pre-completion sound tests fully to the satisfaction of all Approved Inspectors, Local Authority Building Control Bodies and Warranty and Insurance providers in England and Wales. The only other approved accreditation scheme for testing is UKAS. However this does not have some of the benefits of the ANC scheme as it is open to companies that are either not fully independent consultants or are unable to meet the academic and professional standards required for ANC membership.
Building Control bodies should consult with developers on likely completion times on site and should request one set of tests to be carried out between the first dwelling houses, flats or rooms for residential purposes scheduled for completion. Assuming no tests are failed, a sample of at least 10% of the remaining dwellings or rooms for residential purposes should normally be tested. Further testing may be required if a building contains sub groups i.e., where significant differences in forms of construction are present.
Paragon Acoustic Consultants conducts all tests strictly in accordance with Approved Document E 2003 Annex B, BS EN ISO 140:1998 Parts 4 and 7 and BS EN ISO 717 Parts 1 and 2. Results are available to Building Control Officers via the ANC’s ADvANCE secure on-line service.
To date PAC has carried out well over two thousand tests on projects of all sizes, ranging from small conversions to multi-storey residential apartment blocks. In situations where the practice has not been involved with the design of a scheme and a construction has failed at the pre-completion test stage, we have been able to provide successful remedial solutions to meet Building Regulations Requirements. Further details regarding acoustic modelling may be found on the Approved Doc. E page.
