Architectural Acoustics

Acoustics within a space is dependent on a number of factors. Consideration may need to be given to external noise break-in or internal noise break-out via the building envelope, specification of appropriate room geometry, specification of suitable surface treatments and the control of any noise generated from sources within the building itself. A thorough understanding of the acoustic properties of materials, construction techniques and architectural detailing allows us to optimize acoustic conditions for the majority of interior environments. We have extensive experience of the following types of development:
Given the requirements of Approved Document E: 2003, Paragon Acoustic Consultants can model the noise transmissions between dwellings to determine the likely acoustic performance of structures proposed prior to the build. BASTIAN software is used to calculate airborne and impact sound transmission between rooms in buildings and airborne sound transmission from the exterior, based on parts 1 to 3 of EN 12354.

The practice also provides guidance regarding the assessment of room acoustic conditions including, for example, prediction and measurement of reverberation time and specification of absorptive treatments, assessment of acoustic privacy and prediction and measurement of speech intelligibility.
