CadnaA (Computer Aided Noise Abatement) is used for the calculation and assessment of environmental noise such as industrial plant, sport and leisure facilities, new road and railway schemes and noise mapping in towns, cities and conurbations.
The practice uses CadnaA in a variety of situations, for example when predicting noise from new mechanical plant (chillers, condensing units, AHUs and other HVAC equipment) and in the planning context when assessing the suitability of sites proposed for residential development. |
BASTIAN Building Acoustics Planning software implements parts 1, 2 and 3 of BS EN 12354. It is therefore conceptually similar to SONarchitect ISO but sound insulation calculations are restricted to pairs of rooms rather than scheme wide.
BASTIAN is primarily used for analysing smaller projects such as flat conversions and is also particularly helpful when quantifying flanking sound insulation via light weight façade elements. |
INSUL is a program for predicting the airborne sound insulation performance of single, double and triple skin construction elements such as walls, floors, roofs, ceilings and windows. Impact sound insulation and rainfall noise of floors and roof elements may also be determined. The programme can predict the Transmission Loss (TL) or Impact Sound (Ln) in 1/3 octave bands and Weighted Sound Reduction Index (STC or Rw) or Impact Rating (IIC/LnTw) for use in noise transfer calculations, such as those implemented by SONarchitect ISO or BASTIAN.
INSUL is particularly useful for evaluating new materials and systems where laboratory sound insulation test data (BS EN ISO 10140:2010/BS EN ISO 140-3:1995) is unavailable, or to investigate the effects of changes to existing designs. The software has a comprehensive library of constructions, however new elements may be added provided that certain basic physical properties are known, such as density, Young's Modulus and Damping. |
